The Leafs announced on Friday that they had resigned forwards Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson to multi-year deals. These deals were possible because of the Marleau trade which freed up $6.2M in cap space.
Kapanen was extended to 3 years, at a $3.2M AAV. Johnsson was extended to 4 years, at a $3.4M AAV. Johnsson’s AAV is slightly higher as the Leafs bought UFA years. Both of these important players would have made over $4M each on the open market. Luckily, Dubas got them under super team friendly contracts. It’s also favorable that Kapanen and Johnsson love this team and want to stay.
Kapanen and Johnsson both scored 20 goals last season and look to improve their point totals this upcoming season.
