This was hard to write, as I was really hoping this wouldn’t happen again. But here it is.
The Leafs lost 5-1 to the Boston Bruins in another game 7 for the 3rd time in 7 years.
The Leafs came into Boston Tuesday night looking to finally beat their rival and finally “slay the dragon”. They had won 2/3 games in TD Garden leading up to Tuesday.
The Leafs started the first period playing pretty equally with the Bruins. However, they gave up 2 goals. A lucky goal for Nordstrom just through a tiny opening and a goal off a miscommunication between Matthews/Gardiner that lead to a give away and goal against.
The Leafs came into the 2nd looking like themselves. They outplayed the Bruins by a margin and finished the period with a goal from John Tavares, set up beautifully by Tyler Ennis.
Then the dreading 3rd period came. The Leafs were still in the game, down 1 goal. Until they imploded on themselves and basically gave up. Coaching staff in the fault too. Special teams didn’t work, both Tavares and Matthews played under 20 minutes that game, when they should’ve been double shifted in a elimination game down by 1. The 3rd and 4th line shouldn’t be seeing combined 1st line minutes in a losing 3rd period. The Bruins scored 2 more goals, and capped off with an empty net.
Hopes, dreams, happiness and Beleaf left the Leafs fans crowd after the 3rd goal.
The Leafs lost to the Bruins, for the 2nd straight year. A 1st round exit for the 3rd straight year.
